Darlene Clancy,
Board Member
Darlene (Waterous) Clancy was born and raised
in New York. She began tap & ballet at the
age of six and in her teens began teaching tap,
ballet/pointe, jazz and hip-hop to students ages
3 through adults. Darlene was co-captain for her
high school basketball cheerleading team in Queens,
N.Y. and focused on dance while attending Queens
College. Growing up shy and afraid to speak in
front of a crowd Darlene found that dance was
a creative way to express herself without words.

From 1992-1997 Darlene
received numerous awards in ballet, tap and jazz
in group and solo categories at several dance competitions
such as Tremaine, Headliners, Star Systems, Stars
of Tomorrow and Dance Educators of America.
Darlene worked in the finance industry prior to
moving to Jacksonville in 2000 and has worked for
FOX30/CBS47 as the Branding and Public Service Coordinator
since 2001. One of her most fulfilling responsibilities
is working with the City of Jacksonville and non-profit
organizations to help create community awareness
through News stories, events and producing public
service announcements. In 2003 Darlene was honored
to judge the ROAR of the Jaguars auditions as a
representative of CBS47.
Once again pursuing her love of dance Darlene performed
in the Jacksonville Community Nutcracker, became
Captain of the Jacksonville Barracudas Ice Girls
Dance Team and in 2004 selected to the ROAR of the
Jacksonville Jaguars.
During her 3 seasons on the ROAR, Darlene was featured
in the annual swimsuit calendar, several television
programs and commercials, and in 2007 selected by
her teammates as “Cheerleader of the Game”.
On January 1, 2006, Darlene was surprised with a
proposal during pre-game practice at Alltel Stadium.
Her then boyfriend, Matt, knew how much she loved
the ROAR and how much her teammates meant to her
so he knew it would be the perfect place to “pop
the question”. They were married June 2007
in Worcester, Massachusetts in the same church as
Matt’s parents.
After retiring from the ROAR in 2007 Darlene has
become actively involved with the PCA as a Board
Member as well as volunteering her time at community
events including judging dance auditions and pageants.
Realizing that the Jacksonville Axemen Rugby League
lacked cheerleaders Darlene contacted the organization
and offered to form a team. With the help of Donna
Windsor, the “Jacksonville Axe Maidens”
was created. As Co-Directors of the Axe Maidens
Darlene and Donna share the responsibility of choreography
and team management.
Working in television and her experiences on the
ROAR has helped Darlene over come her fear of public
speaking. She hopes to diminish the negative stereotypes
that surrounds NFL Cheerleaders and other professional
dance teams by coming up with creative ideas and
opportunities to positively promote the contributions,
accomplishments and talents of these women.
