H.E.R.O.E.S.
and Pro Cheerleaders Alumni Team up for a Cause
Friday, May 23, 2008 - Professional Cheerleaders
Alumni, Inc., (PCA), comprised of ladies who formerly
cheered for professional sports teams (primarily
the Jacksonville Jaguars) recently teamed up with
H.E.R.O.E.S. (Helping Educate Responsible, Outstanding
& Enlightened Students) in a charity effort
to raise money for at-risk youth. PCA’s mission
is to be positive role models who are committed
to having an impact on the community by providing
service, opportunities, and support to activities
that benefit women and children. H.E.R.O.E.S. has
effectively served thousands of at-risk and underprivileged
students over the past 10 years. |
|
| |
H.E.R.O.E.S. conducted
an exciting and successful silent and live auction
on April 17th at the ocean front Casa Marina Hotel
in Jacksonville Beach. The auction helped accomplish
the missions of PCA and H.E.R.O.E.S., as the guests
bid on several prizes including trips and gift baskets,
to name a few. With the help of the community’s
financial support, PCA and H.E.R.O.E.S. are helping
fund scholarships for at-risk K–12 students
to attend accredited private schools where safe,
effective, and captivating learning environments
are provided. Their efforts have dramatically increased
the odds of kids graduating high school and even
attending college, breaking the cycle of poverty
and at-risk mentality.

PCA Jr. Teen Cheerleaders
The Professional Cheerleaders Alumni has been involved
with the Jaguars Foundation’s Honor Rows Program
since the beginning. This is probably one of the
single most important charities that PCA have been
involved with.
This unique, nationally recognized program uses
seats at Jaguars home games as incentives to encourage
children and youth to set and achieve ambitious
but realistic goals.
Goal setting involves academic achievement, behavioral
improvement, |
|
| |
and performing public
service. The program allows agencies from five different
counties to determine how best to use seats as motivational
goals for youth between the ages of 9 and 17.
Each year, PCA alumni places tickets together for
the children, guide them into and out of the stadium,
assist with the lunch line and simply spread good
Cheer throughout the game! The children are always
excited to see past Roar Alumni and some of them
even remember you from years passed! |

Ernest Wilford
Charity
Golf Tournament
The Ernest Wilford Golf Classic hosted its 2nd annual
fundraiser event April 12th and 13th. The tournament
specifically benefits The First Tee Golf Program,
a non-profit organization, that’s mission
is to provide an affordable and accessible youth-centered
golf facility where the youth in the First Coast
community can learn the game of golf and the values
it teaches in a structured and supportive environment.
Wide Receiver Ernest Wilford, #19 of the Jacksonville
Jaguars, with the help of Golf Pro Dale Claussen
and former |
|
| |
Roar member Melissa George,
held the actual golf tournament on the bright and
sunny Friday afternoon of April 13th.
The night before, players and guests attended a
remarkable Kick-Off Party in the Touchdown Club
at the stadium that featured several of our fellow
Professional Cheerleaders Alumni as hostesses that
helped show their support for the cause. They helped
guests bid on one-of-a-kind sports memorabilia in
both a live and silent auction all while helping
raise money for a good cause. Wilford also unveiled
his new foundation cleverly named E. Wil, which
will focus on helping underprivileged youth in the
community by getting them involved with extra curriculum
activities and enhancing their “Wil-Power”.
The true highlight of the evening though belonged
to our girls as they grabbed the attention of all
the guests with their charming social skills and
of course their outstanding beauty, inside and out.

FCCJ Summer Cheerleading
Camp
The PCA is now the sole provider of instructors
for several summer camps held at Florida Community
College at Jacksonville (North Campus). This effort
was coordinated by PCA Board Member Latricia Ledet,
who taught the Cheerleading summer camp in 2006.
While searching for additional instructors, Latricia
realized that working these camps could be an awesome
opportunity for the PCA. Such participation could
bring in funds that could be used toward scholarships
while creating opportunities for PCA members to
give back to the children of our community. Latricia
made a proposal to camp organizers on behalf of
the PCA, and that proposal was met with great enthusiasm.
Thus, a great community partnership was established.
Jessica Hurckes and Missy Freeman were instructors
in the 2007 summer camps. Jessica taught Beginning
Cheerleading while Missy taught Baton Twirling.
The kids had a wonderful time and the instructors
were outstanding!
